My little Buenaventura experience

πŸš—πŸš—πŸš—πŸš—πŸš—πŸš—πŸš—πŸš—πŸš—πŸš—πŸš—πŸš—πŸš—πŸš—πŸš—πŸš—πŸš—

Hi! I’m a young woman from Colombia and you can call me Nath. I’m studying Psychology at ICESI University, and I couldn’t be more excited about it! I can be described as a quiet and calm person, but also a talkative and friendly one. I like more to travel in car, because I can stop wherever I want to see the landscape. When I’m in a travel, I like to wear comfy clothes, that can protect me from the sun and allows me to freely move, but specially because I can fall asleep in any spot so it’s good for me to be wearing this kind of clothes. I like to eat and taste new things, but if it looks gross, I won’t touch it.

I am writing this blog because I want to show how perspective can change when traveling to a location in a bad season, and how this makes people who travel to the same place have different impressions with each other about different facets of the place. This whole combination of situations can change your perspective about the culture, about the people and about how much they care for their land and how it looks.

My family and I went all the way from Cali to Buenaventura in a car. I think the travel took us about eight hours to get there. When we got there, we went to the Cascal island, it works as a bay for the city. There I saw a lighthouse, painted with red and white stripes, but I wasn’t able to enter because it had a fee and I couldn't pay it. I also saw a park, it was big and colorful, and it surrounded the lighthouse. I saw the beach and the sea, but they both were really dirty, the water was not clear at all, but I think it could be due to the season it was in when I traveled there. The beach I saw was in a low tide and it was full of little snail shells. There were children in the beach and some people told me the children would swim looking for coins in the sea when it was in a high tide and they’d do it even when the water wasn’t clear. That surprised me because I didn’t understand how they could be able to see, or even swim in that water. I also saw a lot of seagulls, which were being fed by people in the beach, I learned that these seagulls are one of the smallest of their kind. At the end of that journey, I ended up thinking that place was a dirty one, which didn’t care about their children or about the sea and I didn’t want to go back. But, as I knew later, I did that journey on a bad season and I therefore I wasn’t able to see all the beauty and the culture of that city, so I think it deserves a second chance and now I’m hoping I get the chance to go back and see it just how the way it is.
